Geely and Volvo announce new vehicle strategies for European markets
Geely and Volvo are expanding their automotive offerings in Europe through new model developments and strategic shifts. Geely, which owns Volvo and Polestar, plans to reveal its first vehicle developed specifically for the European market next year. This includes a halo model codenamed Project KO11, a localized version of the Galaxy Cruiser 4x4 designed to compete with the Land Rover Defender. The vehicle is intended for hardcore off-roading and will feature a redesigned ‘Flyme’ infotainment system and adjusted driver assistance alerts to better meet European consumer preferences.
Separately, Volvo has announced plans to launch a new, lower-priced battery electric vehicle (BEV) targeting a large European market segment. This move follows a significant operating loss, job cuts, and increased cash burn. The new EV will utilize Volvo’s SPA3 dedicated electric platform. Volvo intends to unveil three new models next year: one tailored for Europe and two for China. The company is also working to resolve production ramp-up delays for the EX60 model caused by new industrial technologies.
