Geely expands global SUV lineup with Monjaro EM-i and Starray EM-i

Chinese automaker Geely is expanding its global footprint with the introduction of new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. The company has officially confirmed that the Monjaro EM-i, a D-SUV measuring 4.8 meters in length, will be released in European markets following its global premiere in Egypt.

Built on the GEA Evo platform, the Monjaro EM-i utilizes the EM-i Super Hybrid system, which pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with electric assistance. The vehicle will be offered in Pro, Max, and Ultra trims. The top-tier Ultra version features an e-AWD electric four-wheel-drive system, capable of reaching 0-100 km/h in 5.83 seconds. Front-wheel-drive versions report a fuel consumption of approximately 5.4 liters per 100 km when the battery is low.

Geely is also promoting the Starray EM-i, a hybrid SUV designed to compete with established models like the Peugeot 3008. The Starray EM-i features a significant battery capacity allowing for an electric range of up to 136 km (WLTP), positioning it as a cost-effective option for daily commuting. Following its launch in Egypt, Geely plans to roll out these models in the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, and Kazakhstan.
