Geely introduces Starray EM-i AWD plug-in hybrid SUV in Australia

Geely is expanding its Starray EM-i range in Australia with the introduction of the Inspire AWD, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) midsize SUV. Scheduled to arrive in showrooms in mid-September, the new variant features an additional 80kW/150Nm rear-axle electric motor to complement its 1.5L petrol engine and front electric motor. This configuration increases total system output to 220kW and 412Nm, reducing the 0-100km/h acceleration time to 6.3 seconds.

Mechanical upgrades for the AWD model include a five-link rear suspension system, replacing the four-link setup found in front-wheel drive models, and the addition of Snow and Off-Road driving modes. The vehicle utilizes a 29.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 60L petrol tank, providing a combined WLTP-rated range of 1,065km.

Retailing at $44,990 before on-road costs, the Starray EM-i Inspire AWD positions itself as a competitive option in the affordable PHEV segment, undercutting rivals such as the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the BYD Sealion 6.
