Geely Auto Group has announced a strategic shift to utilize Volvo's European manufacturing facilities to produce its premium brands, including Zeekr and Lynk & Co, starting in 2028. This move is designed to bypass high European Union tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, which currently include a standard 10 percent import duty plus an 18.8 percent countervailing duty.

Key production sites identified for this expansion include Volvo's plants in Torslanda, Sweden; Ghent, Belgium; and a new electric vehicle facility in Košice, Slovakia, scheduled to begin operations in early 2027. Potential models slated for European assembly include the Lynk & Co 900 and Zeekr plug-in hybrid crossovers 9X and 8X.

In addition to manufacturing shifts, Geely has consolidated its engineering efforts by merging its Gothenburg and Frankfurt research centers into Geely Technology Europe. This integration aims to accelerate the development of global platforms and reduce the time between model debuts in China and international markets. Separately, the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) reported that Geely has reached the top of the global rankings for electric vehicle innovation, surpassing competitors such as Volkswagen Group and BYD.
