Gefragt – Gejagt faces controversy over rules and presentation

The ARD quiz show ‘Gefragt – Gejagt’ has faced recent scrutiny regarding its rules and presentation. Contestant Michael Meichsner has publicly accused the broadcaster of unfair rule interpretation following a narrow defeat. Meichsner claims he was cheated out of 36,000 euros due to inconsistent judging: specifically, the jury accepted the answer ‘Kleeblatt’ for a question about a plant, whereas the contestants' answer of ‘Manhattan’ was rejected for a question about the location of the Cotton Club, despite Manhattan being the borough containing Harlem.

Separately, quiz professional Sebastian Jacoby addressed misconceptions regarding the show's formal atmosphere. In the talk show ‘Missverstehen Sie mich richtig!’, Jacoby clarified that the ‘Hunters’ do not use the informal ‘du’ (first-name basis) with contestants. He explained that the appearance of familiarity arises because the Hunters are only provided with contestants' first names during recordings. Jacoby noted that the formal attire and elevated seating positions are intentional elements of the show's concept to project authority.
