Geita Gold Mining Limited pledges 1.2 billion Shillings for pediatric heart treatment

Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has committed approximately 1.2 billion Tanzanian Shillings over three years to fund medical treatment for 300 children with heart conditions. The initiative aims to improve access to specialized cardiac services for children whose families cannot afford the high costs of treatment.

Under a signed agreement between GGML and the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), the company will provide roughly 400 million Shillings annually to treat 100 children each year. The partnership was facilitated by Global Medicare, a Dar es Salaam-based organization.

GGML Managing Director Ashraf Suryaningrat noted that the decision followed a rigorous assessment of the program's potential impact. JKCI Director Dr. Peter Kisenge emphasized that the support is vital for life-saving interventions, including surgeries and procedures to correct heart defects.
