Gel heel socks and compression travel socks advised for foot health

Gel heel socks feature a gel or silicone lining that creates a barrier to keep moisture in the heel area. They are useful for superficial dryness, especially when paired with a thick moisturising cream such as urea, and are intended for nightly use. They are not suitable for deep fissures, which require medical evaluation.

Compression socks apply graduated pressure, typically 15‑30 mm Hg, to aid blood flow from the lower leg back toward the heart. While they are marketed to lower the risk of deep‑vein thrombosis, medical evidence is limited; they are known to reduce swelling and discomfort during long flights or car journeys. Various brands offer options ranging from 20‑30 mm Hg for medical‑grade use to lighter pressures for everyday comfort.
