Gela administration addresses housing crisis and financial recovery
The municipality of Gela has implemented a new policy to combat a housing emergency by making municipal properties available to families at risk of eviction. This initiative includes the use of buildings confiscated from mafia organizations, provided through two-year loan-for-use contracts where families cover utility and improvement costs. This measure aims to support over one hundred families, including those with children, facing displacement.
In financial news, Mayor Terenziano Di Stefano confirmed that the Ministry of the Interior's Commission for the Financial Stability of Local Authorities (Cosfel) has issued a favorable opinion on Gela's stabilized rebalanced budget. This approval is considered a critical milestone in the city's efforts to overcome its state of financial distress and restore essential public services.
Local council sessions have also addressed various administrative issues, including infrastructure projects such as the Federico II di Svevia seafront and concerns regarding high water utility costs for residents.
