Gela and Comiso sign protocol to boost Comiso airport
The municipalities of Gela and Comiso, along with the Free Consortium of Ragusa, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support and enhance the ‘Pio La Torre’ airport in Comiso. The agreement establishes a permanent coordination table involving local administrations, airline companies, and economic operators to monitor the airport's performance and address critical issues.
The initiative aims to increase passenger flows by tapping into demand from the Gela area and the southeastern region, with expected benefits for the tourism, commercial, industrial, and agricultural sectors. To support this, Aeroitalia SpA has presented commercial proposals to expand connected destinations through interline connections and partnerships.
In addition to airport development, the agreement links to efforts to improve road infrastructure, specifically regarding the Gela-Siracusa motorway lots. Local officials intend to extend the motion to other municipalities in the affected territories to create a unified regional approach.
