Gela football club secures new ownership and registers Asd Gela ahead of Serie D season

The municipal mayor announced that the long‑running ownership dispute at Sicilian club Gela has been resolved through an agreement between the current owners and a new group of local entrepreneurs. The deal will lead to the formation of a new legal entity, to be registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate, which will take over the club’s sporting title and enable its registration for the upcoming Serie D campaign. The new club, Asd Gela, was formally created, with Maurizio Melfa appointed president and Giuseppe La Spina as vice‑president, alongside other officials. A new bank account has been opened and payments to players are slated to begin within days.

The transition still requires the acquisition of the club’s business assets and compliance with FIGC regulations, including a reported €300,000 needed to secure the federation’s approval and avoid further penalties. Players have already contributed by forgoing two months of wages, and the organization is working to resolve remaining contractual issues before the season starts.
