Gela hospital protest enters 17th day as leaders demand healthcare reforms
Local leaders and the Democratic Party (Pd) are continuing a protest in front of the Vittorio Emanuele hospital in Gela to demand improvements to the local healthcare system. The demonstration has now entered its seventeenth day.
Mayor Terenziano Di Stefano has issued appeals to Sicilian Regional President Renato Schifani and Regional Assessor Marcello Caruso to visit the facility. The mayor also called upon Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to intervene, describing the hospital as being in a state of constant struggle regarding staffing and services.
The Democratic Party has criticized the absence of government coalition partners, specifically Fratelli d'Italia and Lega, from the discussions regarding the hospital's needs. They have also called on healthcare manager Salvatore Ficarra to visit the site to acknowledge the current conditions.
