Gela, Italy intensifies crime crackdown with security operation and attempted‑murder trial

The business association Confcommercio Ascom Gela praised a recent law‑enforcement operation in Gela that placed precautionary measures on suspected thieves behind recent "spaccate" break‑ins. President Francesco Trainito thanked Prosecutor Salvatore Vella, the public safety police and other forces for acting decisively and restoring confidence among local merchants.

In a separate judicial development, the appeal court in Caltanissetta is reviewing the attempted‑murder case from Borgo Manfria, a town in the Gela province. Father and son Orazio and Giuseppe Pisano, previously sentenced to 11 years for the attack on farmer Carmelo Palmieri, face new conclusions after investigators examined alleged financial transactions linked to the crime. Palmieri, the civil party, maintains that payments were made, while the defendants argue otherwise. The case also involves brother Emanuele Pisano, convicted of related offenses.
