Gela leaders propose institutional forum to resolve hospital healthcare crisis

Local leaders and political figures in Gela are calling for a shift from protests to institutional dialogue to address the critical healthcare crisis at the Vittorio Emanuele Hospital. Following ongoing demonstrations by citizens demanding better medical services, former mayor Lucio Greco and Giuseppe Nicosia, president of Gela Nova, have proposed creating a permanent institutional table.

This proposed forum would include the Municipality, the Local Health Authority (ASP), the Region, national and regional parliamentarians, medical unions, and universities. The goal is to move beyond political disputes and create a concrete strategy to attract and retain medical professionals.

Key issues identified include the need for improved working conditions, better organizational structures, updated technology, and professional growth opportunities. Proponents argue that solving the shortage of doctors and specialists requires making the territory more attractive for professionals and their families, rather than relying solely on protests or administrative requests.
