Gela Mayor defends PNRR construction projects amid delay criticisms

Gela Mayor Terenziano Di Stefano has defended the city's administration against criticisms regarding delays in public works projects funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Responding to political opposition concerns about upcoming deadlines, Di Stefano characterized the criticism as superficial and detached from the practical difficulties of managing large-scale infrastructure.

The Mayor cited several factors contributing to project delays, including supply chain issues, rising material costs, technical difficulties, and complex authorization procedures. He noted that these challenges are affecting PNRR implementation across Italy. In Gela specifically, he highlighted an "extraordinary quantity of archaeological finds" that have added complexity to certain interventions, describing these discoveries as a challenge and an opportunity that reflects the city's historical wealth.

Di Stefano expressed full confidence in the municipal staff and technical professionals working to transform the city, emphasizing that the administration is navigating an unprecedented season of transformation.
