Gela officials address water crisis and municipal budget

The Gela City Council is set to discuss a motion regarding the structural water crisis affecting the Piana di Gela. The motion, presented by the Democratic Party, calls on the local administration to urge the Sicilian Region to make existing dam infrastructures operational. Local agricultural entrepreneurs have faced long-term water shortages due to bureaucratic delays and unfinished testing processes, despite the physical infrastructure being in place.

Separately, the Union of Municipalities—comprising Gela, Niscemi, and Butera—has approved a draft budget. This step is part of a process to utilize approximately 30 million euros in regional funds for new public works within the functional urban area. The administration aims to begin the bidding process for these projects in early next year, with a final deadline for completion set for 2028.
