Gela pizzeria launches culinary tribute to Rosa Balistreri

To commemorate the centenary of the birth of legendary Sicilian singer-songwriter Rosa Balistreri, the Sabìa pizzeria in Gela has launched a gastronomic project titled ‘Rosa, si mangia!’. Developed in collaboration with the ‘Salvatore Zuppardo’ Christian Culture and Spirituality Center, the initiative aims to preserve the memory of the artist through culinary art.

The centerpiece of the project is the ‘Pizza Rosa’, a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional ‘fauzza licatese’ from Balistreri’s hometown of Licata. The pizza features tomato, stracciatella, Cantabrian anchovies, sweet garlic mayonnaise, pecorino chips, and seasoned breadcrumbs with oregano. The menu also includes a reimagined Licata-style muffuletto appetizer featuring Mediterranean tuna, Sicilian pecorino fondue, and bread gelato.

The presentation event is scheduled for September 18, 2026, at Sabìa, featuring live music by Andrea Russo and Alessia Agati alongside a live art performance by Nuccia Scicolone.
