Gela man arrested for attempted jewelry robbery and 3D-printed weapons

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Gela, Italy, following an attempted robbery at a jewelry store in the historic center. According to police reports, the suspect entered the shop armed with a handgun and demanded the owner fill a backpack with gold. The robbery failed after the merchant explained that the store did not stock gold items, prompting the suspect to flee.

Following an investigation of surveillance footage, State Police identified the suspect and conducted a search of his residence. Authorities seized a 3D printer, a welder, a vertical drill, and various weapon components. Investigators believe these tools were used to manufacture or modify firearm parts.

In addition to the attempted robbery, the man was found in possession of a semi-automatic pistol replica and parts of a deactivated weapon that had been structurally modified to be functional again. Police also recovered several magazines and ammunition. The suspect has been charged with the manufacture and possession of war weapons and is currently in custody.
