Gela to showcase Sicilian archaeological finds in new Culture Palace

A convention was signed today between the Soprintendenza for Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Caltanissetta and the Comune of Gela to display a large collection of Sicilian archaeological artifacts in the new Palazzo della Cultura in Gela. The free‑use agreement covers items recovered through preventive archaeology in the Gela area and excavations at the Orto Fontanelle site, including a 5th‑century BC sanctuary, an ancient workshop (ergasterion), and a votive treasure of 71 coins together with a stylus depicting the head of Dionysus.

Regional cultural heritage assessor Francesco Paolo Scarpinato highlighted the collaboration as a strategic tool to broaden public access to the region’s heritage. The city will provide custody and security for the exhibits. Present at the signing were Gela’s mayor Terenziano Di Stefano, culture assessor Romina Morselli, and superintendent Daniela Vullo, who praised the move as enriching the city’s cultural offering.
