Gela waste management system faces organizational restructuring
The Srr4 assembly is scheduled to meet next week to address the future of the local waste management cycle. Key agenda items include the appointment of a person in charge of procedures (RUP) to manage upcoming tenders or the potential establishment of a new company directly controlled by municipal entities.
This move aims to resolve long-standing regulatory issues regarding the relationship between Srr4 and the in-house company Impianti Srr, a matter previously highlighted by legal opinions and the Anti-Corruption Authority. Additionally, officials are reviewing the status of the mechanical biological treatment system at the Timpazzo platform, which has faced extended maintenance periods. The facility is not expected to return to its full capacity of 183 tons per day until at least November 9, leading to the diversion of waste from several external municipalities to other sites.
