Gelderland reports multiple accidents, fires and boat collision on July 12
On July 12 emergency services in Gelderland responded to a series of incidents. A boat carrying five people collided with a crèche in the IJssel near Lathum; two occupants fell into the water and reached shore on their own while the vessel was later recovered.
Road incidents included a cyclist injured after a hard fall on the N317 between Doesburg and Ellecom and a police officer who was killed and a colleague seriously injured when their patrol vehicle was struck by a truck on Canal Zuid in Lieren. A car fire engulfed a BMW on the A15 near Tiel, and a separate vehicle fire occurred in a caravan near Zevenaar. Additional emergencies involved a water leak affecting several apartments in Ede and a major pipe rupture in Apeldoorn that prompted residents to build sand barriers to protect their homes. All incidents were attended by police, fire brigades and ambulance crews, with most victims treated on scene or taken to hospitals.
