Geledés launches guide for care policy access in Brazil

Geledés – Instituto da Mulher Negra has launched the ‘Guia de Acesso a Políticas de Cuidado’ (Care Policy Access Guide) to assist individuals in Brazil navigating state support systems. The manual provides didactic instructions on accessing public services, including documentation requirements and how to use digital platforms such as SouGov.br and SUS Digital.

The guide addresses the historical invisibility and devaluation of care work, which is predominantly performed by Black and peripheral women. It is structured to provide specific guidance for various demographics, including children, adolescents, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Furthermore, the publication includes dedicated sections for vulnerable groups, such as single mothers, heads of households, families in extreme poverty, people deprived of liberty, relatives of femicide victims, indigenous and quilombola communities, and immigrants. The initiative aims to strengthen policies that recognize the specific demands and realities of those performing both paid and unpaid care work.
