Geleen police arrest four suspects for impersonating officers
Police in Geleen arrested four individuals on Saturday, August 15, following a report of fake police officers operating in Maastricht. The suspects allegedly impersonated officers to target a 72-year-old woman, convincing her that local burglaries had occurred.
Using the real names of active police officers, the suspects claimed they needed to photograph valuable items to assist in investigations if thefts occurred. They subsequently stole jewelry and 1,000 euros from the victim.
Following a quick response and a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle provided by the victim, police apprehended four suspects in Geleen that same evening. The group consists of two 18-year-old men and two youths, aged 16 and 17, from Bilzen. Authorities seized the vehicle and recovered the stolen money and jewelry. Police are continuing their investigation and have issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant against scammers posing as law enforcement.
