Gellerup youth employment initiative connects locals to construction jobs
Lasse Ertmann Garfield, a trained social worker, has been appointed as a social housing employee to facilitate employment opportunities for local youth in the Gellerup area. His role involves connecting local young men interested in the construction industry with building and craft companies operating within Gellerup, Toveshøj, and Skovgårdsparken.
This initiative utilizes social clauses in construction contracts. These clauses require companies to commit to hiring local residents as part of their agreements. For example, the contractor NCC is currently renovating five high-rise blocks along Gudrunsvej under an agreement with Brabrand Boligforening, which has resulted in the employment of 14 local residents, including four apprentices. These requirements also extend to sub-contractors to ensure local job creation remains a central part of the area's physical transformation.
