Gello kindergarten damaged by suspected arson in San Giuliano Terme

A kindergarten in the Gello district of San Giuliano Terme was severely damaged by a fire early Friday morning, October 9. The building has been declared uninhabitable and is expected to remain closed for several months. Damages are estimated to exceed 500,000 euros, affecting electrical systems, flooring, furniture, and structural finishes, while the entire facility requires deep sanitization due to soot.

Authorities suspect the fire was an act of arson. Investigators discovered signs of forced entry, including a broken window and a chair placed outside to facilitate access. Tools such as a club and chisels were also found nearby. While the fire devastated specific classrooms, no items appear to have been stolen, leading officials to characterize the incident as an intimidating act rather than a theft.

Starting Monday, the 42 children who attend the school will be relocated to nursery schools in the Campo and Asciano districts. The Carabinieri's RIS and scientific police are currently conducting investigations to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator.
