Gelsenkirchen nun operates parish kiosk to reach community

Birgit Baier, a nun from the Don Bosco Sisters, has been working at a kiosk in Gelsenkirchen-Hassel since January. The kiosk, known as WerkBude, is operated by the St. Urbanus parish.

Located directly across from the church, the kiosk serves as a low-threshold community space. Pastoral assistant Markus Zingel noted that the parish purchased the stall to reach individuals who might not otherwise enter a traditional church building. The shop sells a variety of everyday items, including cigarettes, beer, soft drinks, and snacks.
