Gemersko-malohontské múzeum hosts ethnographic and insect exhibitions

The Gemersko-malohontské múzeum in Rimavská Sobota is hosting two distinct exhibitions. One features a collection of ethnographic photographs of the Palóc people taken in 1890 by anthropologist Károly Pápai. The exhibition, prepared in collaboration with the Béla Dornyay Museum in Salgótarján, includes images of individuals from local areas such as Hajnáčka and Nová Bašta, supplemented by museum artifacts and wax figures in traditional folk costumes. This display will run until December 31, 2026.

Additionally, the museum will host the exhibition ‘Svet pod lupou – fascinujúci život hmyja’ (World Under the Magnifying Glass – the fascinating life of insects) starting October 8, 2026. This exhibition aims to showcase the diversity of insect species through large-format photography, entomological specimens from the Central Slovak and Gemer-Malohont museums, and life-sized models by Gábor Patkós. Visitors can use stereoscopes and digital microscopes to examine various taxa, including butterflies, beetles, and dragonflies.
