Geminbeli Tunnel construction nears completion in Sivas

Construction of the Geminbeli Tunnel, located between the Suşehri and Zara districts in Sivas, is entering its final stages. Sivas Governor Yılmaz Şimşek recently inspected the site, noting that the primary tunnel construction is largely complete, with only asphalt paving remaining.

The project, which began in 2013, aims to provide a safer and more comfortable transit route between the Black Sea and Central Anatolia regions, specifically bypassing the difficult Geminbeli Pass. The total length of the project is approximately 9,000 meters, including a 4,280-meter double-tube tunnel.

While the tunnel itself is nearing completion, work continues on the connection roads. Governor Şimşek highlighted that the 4.4-kilometer stretch near Zara is facing challenges due to difficult geography and occasional landslides, requiring additional reinforcement such as fore piles and stone walls. Authorities aim to complete the project and open it to public service before the onset of winter weather conditions.
