Gemini secures Major Payment Institution licence in Singapore

Gemini Digital Payments Singapore has been granted a Major Payment Institution (MPI) licence by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). The approval follows a regulatory process lasting nearly two years.

The MPI licence allows the exchange to provide digital payment token services and cross-border money transfers without the transaction volume limits typically imposed on smaller payment institutions. Gemini has operated in Singapore since 2020 and uses the country as a strategic hub for its Asian expansion.

Through its locally incorporated entity, Gemini provides spot cryptocurrency trading, custody services, and over-the-counter (OTC) transactions. The company stated that the licence validates its commitment to the region and strengthens its ability to serve both retail and institutional clients within Singapore’s regulated framework.
