Gemlik Municipality Launches Textile Workshop to Create Jobs for Women

The Gemlik Municipality in Turkey inaugurated a new textile workshop aimed at supporting local production and increasing women's employment while generating savings for the municipal budget. The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Şükrü Deviren, officials from the CHP, the Osmangazi Municipality, and numerous local representatives and citizens.

Mayor Deviren emphasized that, despite a weak economy, the local government is elected to provide services, not excuses. He described the workshop as self‑sustaining and active, with plans to involve disabled women through collaboration with the Public Education Directorate. The project is presented as a concrete response to challenges facing the regional textile sector, which has suffered factory closures and job losses.

The event also announced the upcoming opening of a pet‑care facility, underscoring the municipality’s broader agenda of community services.
