Gen İlaç opens major pharmaceutical plant in Azerbaijan

A new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, Gen Caucasus Manufacturing Operations MMC, has officially opened in the Pirallahi Industrial Park in Azerbaijan. The project is a joint venture between Turkey’s Gen İlaç Ve Sağlık Ürünleri Sanayi Ve Ticaret A. Ş. (66%), the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund (29%), and SIA Pharmaceuticals (5%).

President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony. The facility, which began construction in 2023, is noted as the largest pharmaceutical production plant in Azerbaijan. The project involved a total value of 113.9 million manat, supported by private investment, 13.2 million manat from the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund, and 10 million manat in concessional loans.

The primary objectives of the facility are to increase Azerbaijan’s local pharmaceutical production capacity, reduce reliance on drug imports, and meet domestic medical needs. Additionally, the investment aims to strengthen Gen İlaç’s international manufacturing presence and its operations within Azerbaijan and surrounding markets.
