Gen Precision expands optical inspection for CPO production

Gen Precision has expanded its inspection capabilities for co-packaged optics (CPO) applications to meet the increasing demands of AI infrastructure. The company has extended the capabilities of its GTK-OSI1 automated passive optical component inspection machine to support fiber array units (FAU) with up to 80 channels and specialized, non-standard structures.

The GTK-OSI1 system utilizes AOI-based precision measurement, AI-powered visual recognition, and automation control to achieve a measurement repeatability of 3σ ≤ 0.1 μm. This technology is designed to assist manufacturers in transitioning from sampling to high-volume production testing, accelerating the validation and mass production of next-generation optical communication products.

Jacky Chang, Executive Vice President at Gen Precision, noted that while passive optical components traditionally followed standard array formats, the rise of AI servers is driving a need for higher-density and more customized designs. The company provides customized measurement scripts and fixture adjustments to accommodate these evolving specifications, with equipment delivery typically occurring within six to eight months of specification confirmation.
