Salim Saleh facilitates medical transfer for Kizza Besigye

Senior Presidential Advisor Gen. Salim Saleh has intervened to secure specialized medical care for detained opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye. Following a request from Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Saleh facilitated Besigye’s transfer from Luzira Prison to the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) after finding the former Forum for Democratic Change president in a critical state.

Saleh, who is also the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, expressed optimism that the political standoff involving Besigye could reach a resolution within three to six months. He noted that the move provided an opportunity to reconnect with Besigye, with whom he had been estranged for years due to political differences. Besigye has been facing treason charges since late 2024, and his health reportedly deteriorated significantly while in detention, including a collapse in court in July 2026.
