Gen Z and Millennials Redefine Work Priorities Across Europe

Surveys of Generation Z and millennials show they are shifting the definition of professional success away from rapid hierarchical promotion toward stable employment, skill development and personal wellbeing. Economic pressures, especially rising cost of living, are leading more than half of respondents to postpone major life milestones such as starting a family, continuing education or launching a business.

Housing affordability is a key factor influencing job location decisions for 69% of Gen Z and 64% of millennials. Only about 6% view a senior leadership role as their primary career goal, citing concerns about stress, responsibility and work‑life balance, though a majority still express interest in pursuing higher‑level positions later. Use of artificial intelligence in daily work has risen sharply, with roughly 74% reporting regular AI use, while many also note “digital fatigue” from the influx of new tools that are not fully integrated with older systems.
