Gen Z consumer behavior shifts from impulse to value-based shopping

Gen Z consumer behavior is shifting from impulsive desire to a more calculated decision-making process. While emotional triggers such as viral videos or social media trends often drive Gen Z to add items to their wishlists, the final purchase depends on whether a product is deemed ‘worth buying.’

According to a Credit Karma survey, shopping serves as an emotional regulator for this demographic, with 58% of Gen Z respondents shopping to reward themselves after a good day and 59% doing so after a bad day. However, financial considerations often lead them to delay payments to compare reviews, check ingredients for cosmetics, or evaluate the durability and performance of technology.

Quality and reliability have become essential prerequisites for completing a transaction. Rather than being swayed solely by aesthetic marketing, Gen Z consumers increasingly rely on peer reviews and real-world product experiences to validate their purchases.
