Gen Z dating trends show rising ghosting and a shift toward soft socialising

A new survey titled the Modern Dating Sindex, commissioned by Sinless Vodka Cocktails and conducted by Wakefield Research among 2,000 U.S. adults, reveals shifting romantic behaviors among Gen Z. The data shows that Gen Z engages in ghosting at a higher rate (79%) compared to Millennials (75%). Additionally, Gen Z reports higher frequencies of double texting (59%) and love bombing (55%) than the older cohort.

The survey also highlights the prevalence of “dating rosters” and “cushioning.” Approximately 65% of respondents maintain a roster of casual romantic prospects, while 43% admit to cushioning, or keeping other prospects available in case a current relationship ends.

In response to digital fatigue and dating app burnout, a trend known as “soft socialising” is emerging among Gen Z. This movement involves rejecting high-pressure digital networking in favor of in-person meetups centered around relaxed, shared activities to foster more authentic connections.
