Gen Z financial trends show rising debt and high luxury spending

Recent data highlights diverging financial trends for Generation Z. A survey conducted by aytm for Accredited Debt Relief and Money.com indicates that 45% of Gen Z adults reported an increase in debt over the past 12 months, the highest rate among all surveyed generations. Respondents cited a lack of financial education and changes to government programs as contributing factors. This rising debt is noted for impacting life milestones such as home ownership and career moves.

Conversely, Gen Z is showing significant influence in luxury markets. According to data from UBS, the generation outspent all other age groups on fine art last year. Experts from The Fine Art Group Americas suggest that sudden wealth from the tech sector and a preference for online purchasing are driving this trend. Young collectors are increasingly purchasing high-value items, including fine art, sneakers, and collectibles, often through digital platforms.
