Gen Z Investment Trends Rise in Mexico and UK

In Mexico, the CetesDirecto platform, which offers commission‑free government securities, reports that out of its 2.9 million users more than one million are aged 26‑35, reflecting strong interest from Millennials and Gen Z in safe, low‑risk instruments. Platform director Jose Ballesteros notes that the preferred term for many investors is the 28‑day certificate, accounting for about 80 % of holdings, and that a new government‑linked fund product is planned.

In the United Kingdom, nearly 780 000 Gen Z investors have entered the market over the past two years, with 37 % starting to invest during this period, according to Vanguard. One‑third chose cryptocurrency as their first investment, while pension participation among the cohort fell 10 %. Analysts such as Sarah Coles of AJ Bell warn that the allure of quick gains can distract from long‑term retirement savings, and Anna Macdonald of Hargreaves Lansdown highlights the risks of concentrating on single assets versus diversified funds.
