Gen Z leads widespread protests across Europe over cost of living
Younger generations, specifically Gen Z, are leading a wave of demonstrations across Europe to protest rising living costs, housing shortages, and inadequate education funding. These protests present significant challenges to various European governments.
In France, nearly 800,000 people participated in demonstrations on Saturday, including 250,000 in Paris. French authorities reported approximately 1,000 arrests during the nationwide protests. In Italy, large security forces were deployed to manage demonstrations involving thousands of people, resulting in several hundred detentions, including many minors.
In Spain, protests regarding housing issues have spread to Portugal. Meanwhile, in Albania, student protests have persisted for months, initially sparked by opposition to luxury development plans. Student unions across the continent are reportedly sharing experiences and perspectives as the movement grows.
