Gen Z Prioritize Vacation Savings Over Retirement, Study Finds
A JPMorgan Asset Management survey of more than 2,000 workers aged 18‑29 found that nearly half of Gen Z respondents rank vacation savings ahead of retirement contributions, the highest rate among all age groups. Respondents also cite paying off student loans, building emergency funds and higher living costs as reasons for deferring retirement savings. About one‑quarter have taken loans or early withdrawals from retirement accounts, using the funds for unexpected expenses, home purchases, debt reduction or health costs.
Separately, Business Insider Intelligence highlights six attributes financial‑services firms should emphasize to attract Gen Z customers, noting their digital‑native habits, preference for peer‑influenced recommendations, and demand for intuitive, mobile‑first products.
Together the findings suggest a shift in financial priorities for younger workers and underline the need for banks and payment providers to adapt products and marketing to this cohort’s short‑term liquidity needs and long‑term engagement potential.
