Gen Z reports higher loneliness rates than Baby Boomers in global survey
A global consumer survey conducted by GWI in November 2024 indicates a significant gap in reported loneliness between generations. According to the research, 80 per cent of Gen Z respondents reported feeling lonely at some point during the previous 12 months.
In contrast, 45 per cent of Baby Boomers reported feeling lonely during the same period. The study, which included 1,821 Gen Z respondents worldwide, serves as a snapshot of changing social experiences rather than a clinical mental health assessment.
Researchers note that the findings are based on a cross-sectional commercial survey rather than a peer-reviewed longitudinal experiment. The results reflect the experiences of the specific populations surveyed and should be viewed as a clue regarding social trends rather than a universal psychological rule.
