Gen Z travelers take physical risks for social media photos

A new study reveals that nearly half of American travelers have gone beyond what felt safe during a trip. Notably, more than one-third of Generation Z travelers admitted to taking physical risks specifically to capture a photo or video.

Behavioral scientist and social psychologist Jordan Bridger suggests that mobile phone cameras transform viewpoints into stages for peers, where the perceived gain in social status from a spectacular shot is a significant motivator. Social media platforms further encourage this behavior by rewarding dramatic imagery.

Travel expert Gabby Beckford, who leads the Young Travelers Network, noted that risky content can provide younger travelers with attention and status opportunities that are rarely available to older generations.
