Gen Z voters expected to impact 2026 midterm elections
Generation Z voters, comprising approximately 50 million eligible Americans, are expected to play a significant role in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. While youth turnout has historically been lower than older demographics—with only 47% of those aged 18-29 voting in the 2024 election—a report by UCLA’s William Institute indicates that nearly 74% of Gen Z respondents say they are likely or certain to vote in 2026.
Key drivers for this increased engagement include concerns over rising living costs, reproductive rights, climate change, and international conflicts. Organizations such as CIRCLE and When We All Vote are working to connect these political priorities to the ballot through campus organizing and voter registration efforts.
In Nevada, voters under the age of 25 represent about 11% of registered voters and are viewed as potential swing voters who could influence state electoral outcomes. Nevada provides several voting options, including 20 early voting centers and 42 Election Day locations, as well as automatic mail-in ballots for all registered voters.
