Gence BC disputes coach's claims of player injuries in hotel elevator accident
A controversy has emerged following a FIBA Europe Cup match between Turkish side Esenler Erokspor and Azerbaijani club Gence BC. Prior to the game, Gence coach Martin Knežević reported that five players were injured after a hotel elevator plummeted three floors during the night. Knežević criticized the accommodation provided by the host club and expressed frustration toward FIBA for denying a request to postpone the match due to the injuries.
However, Gence BC has officially disputed these claims. The club issued a statement asserting that none of the five players mentioned—Jarvis Garrett, Montavious Marrif, Latavious Mitchell, Fikret Alakbarov, or Bakary Camara—were injured in an elevator incident. The club further clarified that they arranged their own hotel accommodations and did not submit a request to FIBA for a postponement. Gence BC has issued a formal warning to Knežević, stating his contract could be terminated if he continues to spread inaccurate information or violates club discipline.
