Gender differences in the timing of romantic declarations

Research cited by Psychology Today indicates a temporal gap between genders regarding when they express romantic feelings. On average, men declare their love after approximately 88 days, whereas women tend to wait about 134 days. Furthermore, 39% of men report saying ‘I love you’ within the first month, compared to only 23% of women.

Clinical psychologist Amélie Boukhobza notes that while the timing of such declarations is significant, there is no universal rule for the ideal moment. She emphasizes that emotional resonance and shared experiences are more important than a specific calendar date. Experts warn against premature declarations made under intense emotion, out of politeness, to fill silences, or immediately before or after sexual intercourse, as these can cause discomfort or appear manipulative.
