Gender equality initiatives held in Empoli and Ferrara
Local government commissions in Italy have hosted events focused on gender equality and the role of women in society. In Empoli, the Equal Opportunities Commission organized a session titled “Donne al Centro” (Women at the Center) aimed at engaging younger generations. The event featured contributors from “Eterobasiche” and the “C’è Figa Podcast” to discuss gender stereotypes, relational dynamics, and social expectations through accessible cultural dialogue.
In Ferrara, the Equal Opportunities Council Commission met to discuss the importance of rural women, aligning with the United Nations and FAO designation of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. The meeting highlighted the crucial role women play in global agri-food systems and addressed inequalities regarding access to land, credit, and decision-making processes. The initiative sought to recognize the historical contribution of rural women to food security and poverty reduction in accordance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
