Gender inequality and the psychological cost of unpaid care work
In Argentina, women face significant psychological and social pressures due to the unequal distribution of domestic and care responsibilities. According to data from INDEC, women dedicate an average of 6 hours and 31 minutes daily to unpaid domestic work, which is double the time spent by men.
This imbalance creates a sociocultural ceiling that limits professional growth, even among women with higher education. The pressure to manage professional, domestic, and personal roles simultaneously often leads to chronic exhaustion, decreased concentration, irritability, and insomnia, as the perceived necessity to 'be able to handle everything' impacts long-term mental health.
