Gender inequality persists in healthcare leadership and domestic management

Recent findings and discussions in Zagreb highlight persistent gender inequalities in both professional and domestic spheres. At the inaugural Women in Healthcare Forum, experts noted that while women constitute nearly 70 percent of the global healthcare workforce, they hold only about 25 percent of leadership positions.

A study of 206 Croatian oncology specialists revealed that 56 percent of women believe gender has limited their professional opportunities, compared to only 2 percent of men. Key barriers to advancement include work-life balance (69 percent), social pressures (46 percent), and unconscious bias (44 percent).

In the domestic sphere, research by the association B. a. B. e. indicates that women bear the brunt of both physical and cognitive household management. While women perform the majority of routine chores, they also carry the primary responsibility for planning, organizing, and coordinating household functions, such as managing children's school and health communications. One study found that 78.5 percent of women exclusively or primarily coordinate communication with schools or kindergartens.
