Gender pay gap persists globally and in Spain

On the International Equal Pay Day, the International Labour Organization (ILO) warned that women globally earn an average of 18% less than men. The organization described this as a structural inequality and called for urgent action through social dialogue, salary transparency, and the revaluation of female-dominated sectors.

In Spain, the UGT union reported significant regional disparities in Castilla-La Mancha. According to 2024 INE data, women in the region earn 4,256 euros less per year than men, while the national average gap is 5,152 euros. The gap is particularly pronounced among women aged 35 to 44, where the difference reaches 5,381 euros annually. Additionally, foreign women face a wage gap 17% higher than their Spanish counterparts. UGT is calling for the implementation of equality plans in all companies and the advancement of gender gap reduction laws in Castilla-La Mancha.
