Gender stereotypes and discrimination persist in Italian society and youth

Silvia Salis, the Mayor of Genoa, has highlighted the persistence of gender stereotypes in Italy through a personal anecdote shared on the Supernova podcast. Salis noted the disparity in how she and her husband, Fausto Brizzi, are questioned regarding their child's care, illustrating how societal expectations continue to disproportionately assign domestic and childcare responsibilities to women.

In a related effort to combat systemic inequality, the 'GenerAzione Futuro!' project is working to address gender stereotypes and discrimination among adolescents aged 12 to 18. Drawing on findings from Save the Children regarding harassment, bullying, and sexist hate speech, the initiative provides educational workshops and guidelines for schools and sports associations. The project aims to promote equality and respectful digital and physical relationships to prevent discriminatory behaviors.
