Gene Editing Milestones: GEG Tech's Retinal Therapy and Editas Medicine Board Appointment

Paris‑based deep‑tech company GEG Tech announced that its RNA‑based nanoparticle vector, used together with UC Irvine’s genome‑editing platform, restored more than 50% of normal retinal electroretinography function in mouse models of degeneration. The approach, which relies on messenger‑RNA delivery rather than DNA vectors, was highlighted as a safer and highly precise method for treating retinal diseases and potentially other genetic disorders. Professor Krzysztof Palczewski of UC Irvine noted the power of base‑editing technology, while GEG Tech CEO Antoine Duboscq said the results “pave the way for major therapeutic advances with high biosecurity.”

Editas Medicine, a Nasdaq‑listed gene‑editing firm, appointed Dr. Patrick T. Ellinor—executive director of the Mass General Brigham Heart and Vascular Institute and director of the Cardiovascular Disease Initiative at the Broad Institute—to its Board of Directors, effective August 6, 2026. Elliott Levy stepped down. The company said Ellinor’s expertise in human genetics and cardiovascular disease will support the development of EDIT‑401 for hyperlipidemia and the broader in‑vivo gene‑editing platform. Board chair Jessica Hopfield praised Ellinor’s “extraordinary scientific accomplishments and ability to bridge research, clinical medicine, and therapeutic innovation.”
